City of Fumes

We at One Man Army Studios welcome you to the Itch.io site for our game City of Fumes!

Immerse yourself in the dark story of a runner from a dystopian city and escape the poisonous gas that threatens to destroy all life there.

The game City of Fumes remains true to the core mechanics of well-known platformer classics such as Super Mario Bros. However, it offers an exciting twist to provide the player with a fast paced 2D platformer. As in most platformers, the player has to move across different levels and platforms and collect as many points as possible. This also applies in City of Fumes, only here it is fragments of a keycard for an elevator, the platforms are the rooftops of a dystopian city and their is deadly gas from which you have to flee. If time runs out before enough fragments have been collected, you cannot escape the gas, as the door to the elevator to a zone safe from the gas remains closed. There are various challenges throughout the level: on the one hand, you have to get to the highest roofs by jumping and running skillfully, but also beware of the deadly traps that can quickly end everything. At hand are suitable items that can be collected during the level, such as a gas mask, which provides temporary protection from the poisonous gas of the traps. 

Visually, the game captures the scenery of a dystopian city, the level runs through a futuristic-looking landscape of houses, the decay of which is clearly visible. 

The art assets are realized with hand-drawn line art.

The protagonist, also known as Runner, is a simple worker living in the working-class district of the city. He repairs the technology on the roofs of houses and keeps them in good working order. So he is no stranger to climbing and jumping over roofs.

The game was developed as part of the third semester project work in the Game Development course at the SRH Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences.

Installation instructions:

1. unzip cof_prj06_game_installer.zip

2. run prj_group06_cof_platformer.exe
